ANNOUNCEMENT FROM JOHN MCGAVIN
"My colleague Eila Williamson and I would like to put together some paper
sessions for Leeds next year (14-17 July 2003) around the general area of
interest represented by "Records of Early Drama: Scotland". We would be
very pleased indeed if you felt able to contribute to them. We would like
to aim for three sessions, on the following topics, though we are very
willing to adjust depending on what you would like to do:
1. Material and non-literary evidence for drama (elite or not), and
ceremonial (elite or not) (e.g., place names, archaeology, geography)
2. The international context for Scottish drama and ceremonial (which could
be more or less explicitly focussed on Scotland)
3. Paradramatic activity and / or non-elite ceremonial
To give you an example, we already have an offer from Greg Walker of
"Spoiling the Play: dramatic intrusion", which would fit into session 2 as
the study of a motif across national boundaries. We would also be glad to
have offers from anyone to chair, or respond within, sessions if they are
unable to give a paper. If there is anyone else you would particularly like
to suggest as an appropriate speaker, we would be glad to hear from you. We
would like the sessions to be interdisciplinary where possible. I'm sorry
to say that the timescale for my getting the suggestions in and filling out
the forms is now short (shortened by collapse and replacement of my
computer), so I would be grateful if you could respond as soon as possible.
I will then get back to you on details."
