A little plug here for McGill Education's Ad Hoc Doc. I did mine in there in
three years. The program accommodates the working and "distant" student very
well. I commuted from Toronto for part of the time. McGill's Ad Hoc is also
very well suited to interdisciplinary approach to writing. My research focused
on how composing in hypertext affects the writing process, so I took some
courses in Graduate Program in Communication and had someone from GPC on my
committee. Also, I submitted my dissertation as a website
(http://www.masondissertation.elephanthost.com). (It's about to be published as
a book - so another little plug:
http://citdpress.scar.utoronto.ca/JeanMason/JeanMason.pdf). Obviously, the
McGill program is very interdisciplinary and flexible. Finally, I couldn't sign
off without heaping oodles of praise on my terrific supervisor, Anthony Pare,
who was absolutely instrumental in making it all happen. Jean
