Hello again, CASLL and CATTW (with apologies for cross-posting):

This is yet another posting for a writing instructor at U of T, this
time downtown and a half-time job. Though part-time faculty at U of T
can't attain tenure or continuing status officially, this particular
position is base-funded and is expected to continue. See the HSWC
website at for a glimpse of another dynamic and focussed operation.

Margaret Procter
U of T Coordinator of Writing Support

.............

Job Description:

The Health Sciences Writing Centre invites applications for a .5 FTE
position as writing instructor for the Health Sciences Writing Centre in
the Faculty of Nursing at the rank of Lecturer, starting July 1, 2005.
This is a career position.

The Health Sciences Writing Centre at the University of Toronto provides
writing instruction to undergraduate and graduate students in the
Faculties of Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Education and
Health, and Social Work. The successful applicant will be expected to
have experience in both university teaching and teaching in the context
of a university writing centre; familiarity with ESL instruction;
general administrative skills; a strong sense of collegiality; and a
proven sensitivity to students with varying backgrounds. Duties include
12 hours of one-to-one instruction per week to eligible Health Sciences
students, especially but not limited to Nursing students; delivering
orientation and some in-course lectures on writing to Nursing students;
preparing and distributing instructional materials; and actively
maintaining liaison with Nursing course instructors. As programs in the
Faculty of Nursing run year-round, some summer teaching is required.

Qualifications should preferably include a PhD or ABD. A background that
includes life or health sciences, or teaching writing in the sciences,
is an asset. A curriculum vitae, a teaching portfolio including a
sample of academic writing, and the names and contact information of
three referees should be sent to Dr. Dena Taylor, Director, Health
Sciences Writing Centre, University of Toronto, 55 Harbord Street,
Toronto, Ontario, M5S 2W6. The application deadline is: January 31, 2005.

Please direct inquiries to [log in to unmask]

The University of Toronto is strongly committed to diversity within its
community and especially welcomes applications from visible minority
group members, women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities,
members of sexual minority groups, and others who may contribute to the
further diversification of ideas. All qualified candidates are
encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be
given priority.
