POSITION SUMMARY
Purpose:
The Writing Centre Consultant will provide writing support to promote and
enhance academic writing skills for undergraduate and graduate students in
all faculties of the university in accordance with the writing centre
program, and assist the manager in the general administration of the writing
centre program.
Accountabilities:
* Tutoring undergraduate and graduate students one-on-one.
* Identifying, assessing, and responding to writing problems at both
the undergraduate and the graduate level.
* Developing and teaching workshops on various aspects of academic
writing.
* Developing and delivering discipline-specific workshops at the
request of faculty for a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses.
* Developing instructional material for the writing centre program in
collaboration with other writing centre staff.
* Assisting the manager in developing and delivering the tutor
training program.
* Administering and editing the writing centre webpage and looking
after promotion of the Writing Centre.
* Assisting the manager with the general administration of the Writing
Centre and administering the centre in the manager's absence.
Qualifications:
* A master's degree in English, rhetoric, linguistics or equivalent
and 6 months experience teaching writing at the University level.
* Excellent teaching and presenting skills.
* Excellent analytical and research skills.
* Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal
skills.
* Excellent organizational and time management skills.
* Excellent team working skills
* Ability to use a variety of software including web editing.
