Northern Arizona University Director of Composition

The English Department seeks candidates for a tenured associate professor
position to serve as Director of Composition, starting Fall 2007. Duties
include directing Northern Arizona University's Writing Program and
overseeing the computer labs, training graduate assistants who teach
composition, and teaching in the undergraduate and graduate programs in
Literacy, Technology, and Professional Writing.

Qualified candidates should have interest and expertise in Composition
Studies, Writing Program Administration, Writing Across the Curriculum,
Literacy, Digital Studies, Professional Writing, and/or related areas.
Candidates should also have experiences working with diverse student, staff,
and faculty groups. This is an eleven-month position.  Salary will be
commensurate with experience.

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric/Composition, or related
field; two years administrative experience with writing programs; articles
or book publications in English, Rhetoric/Composition, or related field; two
years experience teaching critical thinking, reading and writing with
technology; four years of successful university teaching as indicated by
letters of reference and student evaluations.

Preferred qualifications: Three or more years administrative experience
directing writing programs; strong, sustained record of publications
relevant to the position; expertise with using digital and other technology
in the classroom; experience working with people from a variety of
culturally and racially diverse backgrounds, incorporating diverse
perspectives into class syllabi as well as assignments and/or research that
includes diverse populations such as women, ethnic and racial minority
groups; demonstrated excellence and innovation in teaching composition
related courses.

Northern Arizona University is an 18,500-student institution with its main
campus in Flagstaff, a four-season community of about 57,000 at the base of
