The School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies of Carleton
University invites applications for a one-year term position in the
Communication Courses for Disciplines and Professions Unit (CCDP), at
the level of Instructor I, commencing July 1, 2008.
Qualifications are an M.A. in Applied Language Studies, or a field
related to professional communication, and experience teaching
communication courses to engineering students. Candidates must also
demonstrate the ability to teach communication courses to Information
Technology students studying Networking and Interactive and Multimedia
Design. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the
ongoing development of curriculum and of teaching materials. The
candidate must also exhibit a professional commitment to a career in
teaching Discipline-Specific Communication Courses at the university
level, and to a culturally diverse student body. CCDP is housed in a
unit representing a rich diversity of perspectives on language, with
courses in Linguistics, Applied Language Studies, Arabic, American Sign
Language, Chinese (Mandarin), German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and
Spanish, and courses in English as a Second Language for international
students, immigrants and refugees. Detailed information on the School

well as a concise dossier that includes written evidence of teaching
