Two points to add:
1. Wendy, my mother would NEVER let me get away with misspellings.
That's why I phone.
2. I've been teaching students in a computer engineering course where
they are writing code in C++. Any misspelling, indeed, even a
misplaced space and certainly any slipshod semi-colon simply means the
thing doesn't work. It won't compile, it won't compute, and it won't
achieve whatever end was intended. So, spelling certainly matters if
you have precise information that you want to convey.
I'm guessing computers are just about as sensitive to spelling as my mom.
