Two books that spring to mind:
Harmonious Perfection: The Development of English Studies in
Nineteenth-Century Anglo-Canadian College--Henry Hubert (1994)
Intersections: Theory-Practice in the Writing Center--(ed.) Joan Mullin
and Ray Wallace (1994)--this is a good, if not the best, representative
of current thinking in the area of one-to-one instruction and writing
centers.
plus, to address the Basic Writer and related issues, you probably
already have on your list Errors and Expectations by Mina Shaughnessey as
well as Lives on the Boundary by Mike Rose.
Do we get to see the list, Cathy?
