I have been writing directly to James who is (sorry to blow your cover
James!) an old student of mine -- undergraduate U of T -- about his project.
The role of supervisor dies hard! However, I feel that the issues Bill
Ingram has articulated are among the key ones. Faced with the economics
of publishing each document that contained evidence of dramatic/musical/
ceremonial activity, the founders of REED realized that we had to be
selective -- understanding the inevitable problems that this creates. We
felt, however, that users of the REED volumes should have all possible
knowledge of the documents from which our selections come hence the long
and complex sections in the REED volumes describing the documents and giving
precise information of where they can be consulted should a reseracher
wish to follow through with the larger context of the record. Sandy Johnston
