Perhaps this is too well-known to mention, but Percy McKaye wrote a prequel
to Hamlet, entitled
The mystery of Hamlet, King of Denmark, or. What we will: a tetralogy in
prologue to "The tragicall historie of Hamlet, Prince of Denmarke" by
William Shakespeare. (Bond-Wheelwright, 1950, published later in paperback)
which was a most "typographically" interesting book, a series of
calligraphic symbols and other elements having been inserted in the margins
by Raymond DaBoll, a noteworthy book designer and calligrapher.
