Hi Margaret,
A few unorganized thoughts:
- I'd chat to people who do it. Stephen Strauss (sp?) at the Globe is
pretty good.
- I'd ask about internship programs at the big papers, as well as at
science magazines.
- I'd read lots of "highbrow" science journalism, e.g., stuff in the New
Yorker, the Atlantic, etc.
- I'd start by freelancing (FON's Seasons takes freelance stuff on
natural science with an Ontario focus).
- I'd develop a specialty or two (e.g., life sciences, astronomy, materials,
etc.).
- I'd keep my fingers crossed.
Cheers,
Jamie
