I don't know much about support groups for ulcerative colitis, but my son, age 28 has had it for about 15 years.  It finally got so bad that he had to have an ileostomy last may which was a complete success.  Your son's fiance should get a first rate gastro-enterologist and stay off prednisone if at all possible.
