This is the last time that I will be able to offer the DAPS (Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society) videotape, "A Story of Hope." at no charge to list members. On 1 February, I shall run my last set of labels, and thereafter the tapes will be available only for a price through the DAPS office. At that time, if there are tapes left, I may consider second and third copies for those who have indicated a need for them. Judging from this list of places to which I NOT have sent a copy of "A Story of Hope," it appears as though PD is not prevalent in a large contiguous area of North America, as represented by the following states and provinces. Is it possible that these people mistake tremors for shivering? Alaska Alberta Idaho Manitoba Montana North Dakota Saskatchewan South Dakota Wyoming Yukon and Northwest Territories ...to which you could add Northern Minnesota, and all but the southern part of Ontario and Quebec which would then make the area contiguous to the Maritimes as well: Labrador New Brunswick Newfoundland Nova Scotia Prince Edward Island ...and then you have these areas which I have not heard from either : Arkansas Delaware Hawaii Louisiana New Hampshire New Mexico Puerto Rico Utah Virgin Islands West Virginia Yes, I am being facetious to suggest that these less densely populated areas would not have people with Parkinson's, but I was elated to see requests from Northern Michigan (the Upper Peninsula - Parkinsaw country) and Wisconsin arrive after my last posting. Much of the rest of the world - alas - uses a different television system and cannot play the tape unless they have the U.S./Canada system also. For those of you who missed it, here's a substantial repeat of the original posting offering this tape at no cost to you: << Jim West of DAPS, the Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society, has produced and directed an excellent twenty-five minute tape about our support organization. The tape tells about Parkinson's and what we at DAPS are doing to help Parkinsonians. I have arranged for us to receive a grant which will allow us to share this tape with several hundred prominent people in the Parkinson community and their support groups. Most of these prominent people are you, the people on this list. Within the limits of our grant we will gladly send at no cost a copy of this tape to all listmembers who ask for one. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the tape, please request it by writing me OFF LIST. Please show your complete snail-mail address and also tell us what support group(s) if any you belong to. >> Art
