Dale, I don't have any great ideas for your supermarket fundraiser offhand, but I can tell you some about the ballooning community. Balloonists are usually quite generous, especially when the cause contributes to their sport as well. Do try to get them involved ahead of time. You might be able to add to your basic gift giving by having a raffle for a, or several, free balloon rides. If you can let me know which event it is (name, place, dates) I may be able to get some more ideas from the balloon community.
