Dear friends, Gerry and Brig, in Pennsylvania, have told me that they, too are facing foreclosure. Anne Rutherford has told me that in Canada there have been MANY cases of financial devastation for PWPs-that my case is NOT unique. How many more cases will it take before something is organized? We PWP's MUST band together. In my case, I am getting over all-day exhaustion in this world of ice and snow. Contrary to what I had been told, and to the information I had written to PIEN in December (1999), I have been tricked. Behind the City of Portland's supposedly magnanimous decision to provide me, through City Welfare, with a $1454.27 property tax reduction this past December , 1999, to prevent foreclosue, I received a copy of an absolutely shocking 1099-MISC form (USA Internal Revenue Service) in the mail yesterday. That "welfare" amount has been reported by the City authorities to the Federal Government's Dept. of the Treasury as "INCOME" that it paid me in cash! I was never paid a cent- the $1454.27 is just amounts billed or deducted. ON PAPER only, by the City of Portland. This "welfare" amount is DOUBLE my monthly Social Security of $703.00, and threatens my keeping my Social Security and Medicaid-which pays for the personal care attendants, because hte Maximum i can receive in a month is $859.00. I intend to call Senator Snowe. Please call her in my support at (207) 874-0883 This is all the more heinous because the Maine state government reimburses 90% of City Welfare back to the City of Portland. The only thing I can conclude is that the sequence of events that injures me financially or in other ways suggests discrimination of the worst kind. I am still without a lawyer. Is that St. Croix Virgin Islands lawyer who is a PWP and on PIEN interested in helping me find one?
