Shirley...

There are some small machines available from a variety of sources
which block noises such as ear ringing, crickets, etc.. They word
by providing "white noise," which masks the sounds.

I have used such a machine for years and it does the trick. I
ordered mine thru the Sears Catalog, and paid around $60 for it.

The machine is small so is easily portable and it's sturdy so you
can even travel with it.
