It is not at odds within the medical/research community.  Clinical studies
are often paid for by the drug companies that will benefit financially from
approved drugs for symptomatic treatment.  The clinicians who run the
individual drug studies are usually different from those "scientists" who
work solely in laboratories - discovering how the brain works and ways to
correct the defects found.  Both should continue to be funded until a cure
is found.
