The phrase "There is no scientific evidence" means that the subject hasn't been well studied, not that scientific evidence shows that there is no effect. In an article in Annals of Neurology, September 1998, Volume 44 (Supplement), Drs. Marsden and Olanow wrote: "The possibility that oxidant stress contributes to cell death in PD offers many opportunities to provide neuroprotection.... Clinical trials to date have largely focused on vitamin E and deprenyl.... Further trials are warranted to test other antioxidant agents...(page S192). Until such studies are undertaken, we are on our own. Patients with other neurodegenerative diseases have more experience with antioxidants than we do, and it may be relevant.
