And Dr. Gary Heit (Stanford), whom Barbara praised, agrees with this. In a recent seminar in San Francisco, he said: 0100,0100,0100Pallidotomy only for dyskinesias and maybe dystonias (main current indication for pallidotomy). and : Ablative surgery only for pretreatment of dystonia. Seems to persist (up to 3 years in his experience). PD patients have more trouble with dysarthria after pallidotomy. -------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Heit believes that the "gold standard" for most cases of PD (surgically) is deep brain stimulation.
