Thanks Judith, for posting the two news reports about the Congressional hearing on fetal tissue research. I checked out the noted House Commerce Committee web site: http://www.house.gov/commerce - from here you can link to more information about the hearing, which was held by the House Commerce Subcommittee on Health and Environment. Or you can also go directly to the hearing page: http://com-notes.house.gov/cchear/hearings106.nsf/main which currently includes some of the testimony, including Joan Samuelson's full statement. It looks like the full hearing transcript may become available in the future, but for now you can listen to an audio broadcast of it. (requires Real Player) ***ALSO you can send the committee your opinion on this issue from this site. Click on "Feedback - express your views" It's very scary that crucial decisions on any type of medical research might have been influenced by the testimony of an individual who appears to think there are 2 versions of the truth - the video (or TV) version and the version under oath. As the articles stated: ". . .Alberty, of Lee's Summit, Mo., said under oath that he had no knowledge of a profiteering scheme despite comments he made on an anti-abortion group's video. ``Anything I said on the video when I was not under oath, that is a different story,'' Alberty told lawmakers." " He later added he made allegations on the Life Dynamics video because he thought ``that's what they wanted to hear.'' Of course, any alleged abuses of the law must be investigated and lawbreakers prosecuted, but in the future, hopefully the sources of information will be more thoroughly checked first - there is too much at stake - like possibly finding a cure for PD. Any other comments? Linda Herman
