agreed; imho,
the whole point of the internet is communication = ease and breadth thereof

if ascii works as a text-standard,
why mess with other more recent and less widely adopted and adaptive iso standards

i thought it was ironic that two messages posted following yours
were full of those =A peskies

i would never consider that ascii should be used for anything but text
but it's the backbone of html coding
which i think is a cross-platform miracle in itself
and which can include video, audio, animation, etc as well as text content
