My husband Tom, aged 68, was diagnosed with PD last year and is the first
patient his doctor has treated with PD.

Tom is now taking carbido/levo 10/100, one tablet 4 times a day; Flomax
.4mg; Lipitor 10mg; and vitamins.

He tells me that he is on the lowest dose given, because of not wanting to
lose the effect of the medicine by his body getting used to it. It is not
controlling his tremor very much.

I would like him to see a PD specialist but haven't been able to convince
Tom. He didn't even tell me he had PD until about 6 mos. after he was
diagnosed. I saw his medication and asked him what it was for. He said he
had something but couldn't remember the name of it. After a minute he said
he thought it was Parkinsons Disease. I was shocked. I knew it was a very
serious illness. He said he didn't think so because his doctor hadn't seemed
concerned about it. The doctor told him there would probably be a cure for
it in the next 5 years, and that he wouldn't be affected by it very much by
then.

Does what he is taking sound reasonable? His symptoms include vivid dreams,
slowed shuffling walk, lots of aches and pains, drooling during sleep,
tiring easily, and tremor in his right arm. Sometimes he can't write
legibly. When he goes downstairs, he goes faster and faster and has a hard
time stopping at the bottom. We put up a handrail, and now he is okay on the
stairs.

I worry that he will lose ground in his ability to function if he is not
being treated the best way, and never be able to undo the harm that is done.
Am I being foolish?
