Drosophila (I prefer the more noble name) was created to be a fly , with but 4 chromosomes. it is ridiculous to expect it to rank in the same place ,on the evolu tionary scale as Man with his 46 + 2 chromosomes.
  It does bring back memories.,

The regular labs were out of the normal tourist beat, and there, conditionsd were not so prety - but 100 flies to the bottle, iso the UNAAFF recommendations of 30, was economically much more viable and after all; these flies had only 4 chromonsomes, and thereofore would not know the differencer. they thought( if they knew how to think with but 4 chromosomes) that they were happy. at least to the observer they appeared to be quite happy. in fact msny would have sworn that they would have been singing as they waited in line to be mutilated - but that is silly - they on ly hAD four chromosomesl so how could they possibly sing. But if you listed very carefully and imagined thnem all vibrating their wings together, you could almost hear the strains of 'carry me back to old johnanny..."

Sure there were some with not quite such high standards,
