Ivan:

I think that a number of types of events could trigger apotosis,
which leads to symptomatic Parkinsons Disease.
Until we have a bettter understanding of that mechanism it will
be hard to draw conclusions. Epidemiological info is always
strongly statistical and not so specific...and abstract.

Recently, there have been reports of a mechanism that stops apotosis,
a synthetic cannabinoid (THC346). Other info about cigarette smoke ( not just
nicotine) has just come out--a derivative of naphthoquinone is suppossed to
be "neuropreservative". Rhiluzole . Propargylamine CGP 3466B is said
to block apotosis.

All these articles (or abstracts) have been posted to the list.
I've spent hours at the PubMed website and will be ordering
full text paper reprints of some of these articles through the
University library.

There may be "convergence" of mechanisms...a common biochemical
pathway.

Vruses can easily mess with biochemical pathways...modified DNA producing
modified protiens...but, what, specifically do they modify? Or, is it just
the initial insult of too much glutamate, or too many free radicals causing
apotosis. Lewy bodies come from messed up protein/protein storage, but,
is it the cause or the effect?

Unless this conjecture leads to understanding of apotosis,
it may not be useful immediately.

Here are some of my priorities:

Control symptoms,
stop progression/apotosis,
recovery/restore lost neurons (growth factors, stem cell implants,...etc).
