We have an MD Psychiatrist or two who can answer better, but here's a clue for now: "Cognitive" covers a lot of ground but for diagnosis of PD may include the following- Perception: Many PWP lose their sense of smell. Subtle changes in vision such as impaired color, contrast, or shape discrimination. Both sensation and automomic rersponse to temperature may be impaired. Memory and Learning: Impairment frequent, often months or years before the motor impairment symptoms appear. Response To External Stimuli: Such as accuracy and speed of response to a particular signal on the viewing screen or assignment of a simple manual task. Motor symptoms are usually the most troublesome at first, but cognitive impairment may provide some early diagnostic clues. Cheers, -- J. R.
