Pramipexole / Mirapex was trialed here under the name Sifrol.Unfortunately all medications are reviewed by the Pharmaceutical Benefits on behalf of the Government who then decide if it is worth granting a subsidy. They deemed sifrol to be not a special drug and offered the distributors a small refund. The German owners of the drug said no, so it was withdrawn. Now it can only be imported. The other drugs are mostly available the newest being Comtan and Cabaser. There are no plans to release Requip or ropinerol by the manufacturers. If a company feels their drug will not qualify for PBS they usually don't release it, especially if it is aimed for elderly patients, as are most people with Parkinson's.
