Hi Yen Dinh:

This symptom of unconsciousness is an IMPORTANT symptom that must be brought
to the attention of your father's physician IMMEDIATELY.

Much of what has been said concerning orthostatic hypotension and Shy Drager
Syndrome is correct, but in such situations the person usually becomes
unconscious when he stands up. Sometimes this CAN be a manifestation of a
side effect of the antiParkinsonian medications or of a Parkinson "plus"
syndrome such as Shy Drager.

However, if this is a new symptom, he needs to be evaluated IMMEDIATELY for
cardiac problems, as these could be life threatening. He also needs to be
evaluated for anemia, gastrointestinal blood loss, endocrine problems, and
kidney problems, to mention only a few broad categories. Do not assume that
it is related to his Parkinson's until all these other causes have been
addressed by his physician.
