Symbols?? The keyboards have evolved a little over the past 20 years but only a little. They started with an 88 key setup but the symbols like Tab, Shift, Return were drawn from typewriter keyboards and are pretty self explanatory. In the current most popular configuration there are also the Function keys F1 - F12 but what they do depends on the program and unless you use Word Perfect you would seldom use the Function keys I'm afrad I'm not much help without something more specific....
