- "In 1978, Vanderbilt University Medical Center became the first institution to establish a clinic devoted exclusively to the
diagnosis and treatment of disorders of blood pressure regulation. In the years since then, under the leadership of Drs.
David Robertson and Italo Biaggioni, this Autonomic Dysfunction Clinic has gained broad experience in the
pathophysiology of orthostatic hypotension and has become the major referral center in North America for patients with
various forms of hypotension. More and than 40% of referred patients come from beyond a 500 mile radius of Nashville,
some from abroad.
- Investigators in Vanderbilt's Autonomic Dysfunction Center have identified previously unrecognized disorders producing
orthostatic hypotension, including most recently dopamine-B-hydroxylase deficiency, a syndrome in which patients have a
congenital absence of norepinephrine and epinephrine. The investigators have also introduced novel therapeutic modalities
for the management of orthostatic hypotensive patients."

The CNS has joined with the AANS in creating the Neurosurgery On Call Website. The site is open for preview now at the National office in Chicago, where it is still under development. The planned date for full access is in April of 1996. Until then, there are still several sites of interest to neurosurgery on the World Wide Web.
The UNC Division of Neurosurgery is also building a site to serve neurosurgery, including a Neurosurgery Residents' Online Handbook, a site for storing images of
Neurosurgical Cadaver Dissections, and for of Neurosurgical Cases. The UNC Division of Neurosurgery also hosts the Neurosurgery Mailing List Archives. Also of interest are Guided Tours of Neurosurgery on the Web.
