I do not recall the details of this study as I no longer review the scientific
literature. However, I remember that a valid study can be designed
only by the responsible scientists together with statisticians
who are intimately acquainted with every component of the study.
Occasionaly, the mousetrap may be reinvented, but it might be just
a little bit better old one. Sometimes the purpose of the study may
appear trivial to some, but it might be 'significant' to the author's'
and some others.
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but then who is the father?
