<< Dennis and Dave,
I would be interested in the same info re: nutritional supplements. I am
 59, diagnosed, 58, symptomatic around 5 years. I take Requip, Vit. E
(1200IU per day), C, St. John's Wort, calcuim, and Coenzyme Q 10. My
neuro doesn't endorse or criticize these supplements, but I note there is
at least one study on Q 10 in progress re: Parkinson's. This is about
all the pills I can handle.

I wanted to add Eldepryl 5mg, but he said if I was going to add
something, his choice would be amantadine.

How would you rate your speed of progression, Dennis, having been
 diagnosed 6 years ago?

Hi Chuck and Dave,
I guess it's just the three of us, the upper 50's gang. When I started
amantadine my first neuro said it would be effective only about 3 to 9 months
that was 6 years ago. About 3 years my second neuro tried to take me off it
but within 3 days I developed new problems like dragging my right foot, and
hurting in my joints. I went back on it immediately. My progression has
been, for the most part, fairly slow. I'm still working as a machinist and
can still drive, just got back from driving 3600 miles on vacation.

I heard on the radio about 4 weeks ago a report on a study that was done on
taking vitamin E. The doctor heading up the study reported the findings that
taking over 200 IU of E a day increased a persons chance of having a stroke
five fold. I have not seen in print any report like that but Dave I would
sure seek additional information before taking 2000 IU of anything. My
opinion. I'm no doctor all I have is a PhD,(post hole digger). Note I
really do hold anyone with a PhD in high esteem, they didn't give up in their
quest and I'm not giving up the fight against PD.

Besides my PD meds I also try to take every day alpha lipoic acid 100mg,
selenium 100mcg, omega-3 fish oil 200mg, vit E mixed tocopherols 800 IU, Co
Q-10 200mg, vit C 1000mg, NADH 5mg.

I would recommend two excellent books for you to read asap, good info. The
Brain Wellness Plan by Dr. Jay Lombard MD and Your Miracle Brain by Jean
Carper. I borrowed both books from my local library.

I hope this info is helpful to you. Keep in touch. This July is my
highschool 40th year reunion and I found out that about 12% of my classmates
are dead so I'm not doing too bad.
