Hey David,
I was sent to a neuropsychologist last summer by my college to be tested
for learning disabilities as the result of a car wreck I was in in '93.
She did different memory tests with me, for both long term and short
term memory. There were also tests that helped to determine what sort
of "outside" factors affected both my memory and my ability to
concentrate. She helped me to come up with gimmicks that would help me
remember stuff and sort through my thoughts in a reasonably orderly
fashion. As a result my grades improved a great deal. Many people are
put off by the psychologist in the title, but the reality is that when
your brain is refusing to work as you know it should, you sometimes feel
like you are going crazy. You don't have to have had a head injury like
me in order to benefit from the input that a neuropsychologist can give
you. Anything that affects the brain, whether it be the result of
trauma or disease or whatever, falls into their area of expertise. I
would definitely see the Movement Disorder specialist, but I truly
believe that a neuropsychologist would have a great deal to offer you as
well. You aren't crazy, or nuts, or wacko............just human. :O)
Peace
Pat
