If your Windows 98 security settings are set HIGH (as they are by default), first Outlook Express 5 says you can not open or read the mail because it contains an Active-X stearing element. As long as you dont change those settings or give permission to activate the element, the script wont function. But if you change the security level or by giving permission to activate the Active-X element, the virus can become active. THEN the Anti-virus program can detect it (at least if you have a regularly updated version). Any mail activating any questions in pop-up screens regarding opening or downloading or changing any settings are most likely contaminated with some kind of virus. Such an email should always be deleted ASAP, and then also deleted ASAP from the map "deleted items/mail". People who's PC find the virus through their virusscanner, without having activated anything, should check their WIndows/browser/email security settings whether the level is high enough!! Of course this may all be different when you use a MAC or another mailprogram. Hans.
