Eleanor,

You only get a notification if you have virus software loaded and
running.  If you do not have such, you should get it ASAP.  The two
best ones are Norton Anti-Virus ad McAfee Viruscan.  I prefer the
former.

Once you have it, you need to run it all the time and log on to their
Web Sites every 1-2 weeks and download the updates.  It is a bit of a
pain, but it as become a necessity these days if one is on the Internet.
