Senate Candidate plans prescription drug trips to Canada
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Nearly three dozen senior citizens filed onto a chartered bus Friday
morning for a one-day trip to Manitoba to buy their prescription drugs more cheaply.
The excursion, paid for by U.S. Senate hopeful Mark Dayton, left St. Cloud just after 7 a.m. Box
lunches were provided on the bus, which crossed into Canada about 2:30 p.m. Several stops
were planned before returning home.

First, they had to exchange their money, then have their blood pressure and prescriptions
checked by Canadian doctors. Finally, they could get their lower-priced medication. Each
citizen can legally bring a 90-day supply of medication into the country.

The bus held 45 people and was full, said Dayton's campaign spokeswoman Sharon Ruhland. Of
those, 32 were seniors getting prescriptions filled. The rest of the spots were filled by spouses,
staff and media.

Dayton's "Rx Express" has more trips planned from other parts of the state over the next few
months.
Friday's inaugural trip originated in St. Cloud and ran to Emerson, Man.
Dayton is one of a field of six candidates who will square off in a primary this September for the
right to challenge Republican Senator Rod Grams in November.
