In 1998 my husband had 3 surgeries: May, a decompressive laminectomy.
September, a colon resection for a fistula caused by diverticulitis and the
in Feb. gall bladder surgery.
I often wondered if the anesthesia didn't have something to do with the onset
of his Parkinson symptoms.
He doesn't have the tremors although his handwriting has changed.
His main problem is with extreme weakness in his legs. After the surgeries he
was sent to PT to strengthen his legs but there was no improvement. In April
2000 after an MRI, blood test and evaluation he was sent to a neurologist who
diagnosed Parkinson's. At present he is on Sinemet Cr Tabs 25/100 QID.
After starting the Sinemet his gait did improve and the shuffle eased up. But
still the weakness.
Thanks to this wonderful list we have an appointment with a Movement Disorder
Specialist the end of August, Dr. David Riley at University Hospital in
Cleveland, Oh.
Before this list I had never heard of a MDS.
I will be sure to ask him about anesthesia and PD and I will let you know his
reply.
Thanks again for all the wonderful information
