Subject: Anti-Depressants Lower Dopamine?

Are any listmates taking Wellbutrin? Has anyone's primary PD doctor =
discussed the possibility that serotonin reuptake inhibitors might =
possibly lower brain dopamine?

Hi Diane,

I have PD and take Wellbutin for depression. It has done a fair job treating the
depression, and I have not noticed any adverse side effects. In the section on
Wellbutrin at www.rxlist.com, it notes that Wellbutrin can block dopamine reuptake,
implying that it can increase the level in the blood.
However, it also notes that:

"Limited clinical data suggest a higher incidence of adverse experiences in
patients receiving concurrent administration of bupropion HCl and levodopa.
Administration of bupropion HCl to patients receiving levodopa concurrently should
be undertaken with caution, using small initial doses and gradual dose increases."
