Dear Peter Hornick-- Perhaps you are a relative newcomer to this list. If so, you could not be aware that the discussion re: topics etc has been repeated MANY times over the years that I've been involved here, and the suggestion of dividing the list has been made repeatedly. On the surface it seems to make some sense, and please don't feel I'm putting you down---the fact is however that it has never happened, because most members didn't prefer it. There is a sublist , "Sparkle", intended for jokes, etc--and some belong to it. But whenever it has been suggested that jokes, poetry, and banter be excluded from PIEN people refuse to support that option, posting about how the lighter messages help them survive tough times ! Some software allows one to filter messages, and this can help--in the end we delete..... We DO ask---and often forget--that the subject heading of a post say NON-PD,if that's the case, and from time to time try to remind folks that an "I agree" or "Good work" kind of message for an individual be sent offlist. Please understand that new members are constantly being added to PIEN, and it is impossible for them to know these "rules" or the history of earlier discussions. It really becomes a "live and let live" situation. As has been said, there are MANY PD-related resources which are only technical--and while PIEN is not one of them, you can easily learn about them here.
