Hi Jim,
I live a long way from Pittsburgh (Vancouver, BC) but this subject comes up
here too... I recommend PC IBM Clones for hardware simply because you
can probably get corporate donations (free) of servicable 486's and slower
pentiums.

Software?  Windows 95 for OS; Opera for Browser; Pegasus for free stable E-Mail;
Pick an Antivirus from top 4; ZoneAlarm for Firewall; WebFerret for fast, free
Internet searches, etc.

I recently wrote a very long piece on E-Mail & Internet problems.  If you want a copy

and downloads)
