Marjorie, There is a *big difference* between a magnet and a TENS unit. A TENS unit emits electricity of given voltage and amperage, and the energy emitted can be shown to stimulate nerves and adjacent tissues. Magnetism does not stimulate tissue, otherwise people would be hitting the proverbial ceiling when they underwent MRI scans, which use extremely powerful magnetic fields. As to your comments about the medical profession not accepting the work of Sister Kenny, those who rejected her work were guilty of the same error that you have just made (regarding magnets). Those who rejected the Kenny treatment rejected it by "belief" and not by using established scientific data. When the Kenny theory was tested scientifically (with the appropriate controlled studies), it was found to be valid and then, *all* scientists accepted it. The work concerning magnets is nowhere near scientifically tested and only serves as a cash cow for those peddling the magnets. Belief (and its corollary "faith" or "religion") has its place. But it is not "science". The true test of a medical theory is "science", not "belief". Best, Bob ********************************************** Robert A. Fink, M. D., F.A.C.S., P.
