choosing to read what we want from this list
is one of its greatest blessings

we can all take what we want and what we need from it
when we want to and as we feel able to

i wonder how your decision will help barb?

could it be be that your reaction is based on
frustration or fear that her [your] problems are insolvable?

>My Barb has had PD for about twelve years and the disease
>has progressed to the point that she is now hallucinating
>and her invisible companions are getting too real...

michel, i have been diagnosed since 1988 = 12 years ago

i know we are all different etc etc
but this hallucination business has me very concerned
about barb's medical care

the hallucinations are not due to the 'progression of the disease'
they are side effects of the medications barb is on
and/or the interactions between them

in my humble opinion
they should not be tolerated
her meds need fine-tuning

>She has also become psychotic and paranoid, thinking that
>someone but there is after her family, her children and me,
>and also out to get her for being too outspoken....

ditto for these feelings of hers
they are not caused by pd they are caused by meds

has all of this been explained to barb's neuro
as clearly as you have set down the facts here?

if the neuro reaction is,
"oh well, can't do too much more"
or anything remotely similar
i strongly suggest that alternative opinions be sought
for barb's sake and for yours and for everyone concerned

>I have the kids (these kids are married adults) call her
>and reassure her. ...

that must give her some emotional comfort
but if she's still seeing and hearing things that she knows are not there
[if at times she knows they are not really there - there is nothing wrong
with her cognition, as she must fear - she is reacting to drugs]
she need medical and pharmaceutical reassurance
in the form of detailed analysis too

>I am also afraid she might harm herself, and am inquiring
>into more CG help.....

this must be putting one heck of a burden on you
so in a sense you are a victim of barb's med mid-mismanagement too

>Now, I can truly say that 'the honeymoon is over'.

nothing is over
that may be a reflection of negative thinking
probably due to all the [unspoken] stress you've been under

that's why you belong to this list
please listen to us for your sake and for barb's

>Barb is not doing well with Seroquel and I've been in touch
>with the psychiatrist after several wrenching episodes of
>high dyskinesia and severe depression. Zyprexa is likely the
next antipsychotic drug we are likely to try....

does any one med professional
have the complete picture of barb's meds and symptoms?
i.e. mood disorder and movement disorder symptoms all rolled up into one?

that is what becomes critical once more than one or two meds
are being taken on a chronic basis
by anyone
but particularly when they are brain altering chemicals
but you know that
and we have all been witness to joe bruckbauer's tragic story

>Neighbors in this senior community are quite helpful
>but cannot understand. ...

of course they can't
all they can offer is sympathy

barb needs an overall assessment and med fine-tuning
as far as this parkie can tell

>This is our struggle and we are not winning...

you don't have to think that way
you are discouraged now
but you can win
the situation can be improved
how can we help you?

>But I am still sending out bits of humor
>... to change the subject....

with all the concern and love in the world, michel,
humour can be a relief and an escape to you and for you
but it will not help barb
but maybe that's why you wrote your message
we are here to answer any and all calls for help
regardless of the language they are couched in

we have had our differences, michel,
but i have always counted you as a friend

you used to think i was a marvellous writer
can you put those glasses back on and read this message to you and barb
as a plain vanilla expression of deep concern and love for you
and for my sister parkie?

because that is all that i am sending with it

love

janet
