Bill 'n All.... Piece of cake - A "pipeline specialist" is someone on the staff who fields call from someone calling in about projects that are still "in the pipeline," rather than on the commercial market (as in "Have Susie, the mailroom clerk pick up the call from the yahoo on line six," Barb Mallut (the yahoo on line two,,,) <grin> [log in to unmask] -----Original Message----- From: Bill Innanen <[log in to unmask]> To: [log in to unmask] <[log in to unmask]> Date: Monday, August 28, 2000 7:56 AM Subject: "Guinea Pig Bill" strikes out All, I saw in a posting to the PARKINSN list that Amgen was looking for volunteers for Phase II and III testing of the drug GPI-1046. For those of you who aren't following the latest news on this drug, here is a link: http://www.parkinson.org/amgen.htm (Sounds like a magic pill, doesn't it?) Anway, I called the number for Amgen this morning, forgetting that they are on the left coast. An answering service picked up the early call. I was told to call back at 7am (Pacific time) and ask for a "pipeline specialist." I have no clue what a pipeline specialist is, but I did as instructed. You know, I still don't know what a pipeline specialist is, but it seems to have been quite amusing to the nice lady who answered and took some basic information about me. She transferred me over to the neurology specialist. Unfortunately there I found that they were all ready full up with volunteers. Here are the details that I gleaned from the conversation: o Phase I testing is still underway in Europe. o Phase II testing already has enough volunteers. o Phase III testing will probably begin in 8 to 10 months conditional on Phase I & II results. They really are not making plans or taking names yet. That will be done only when Phase II is complete and analyzed. o I was told to call back in 7 or 8 months. (I've instructed my computer to remind me.) o I was reminded that if I did join there would only be a 50% chance of getting the drug (double blind test). You can be sure that I will be watching the news to this drug with a worm on my tongue ("baited breath").
