The current judicial system fosters such crimes by not forcing the people who commit such to be responsible for their acts. And then when a law-abiding citizen defends his home, *he* becomes the "villain", or the gun is blamed. When a drunk driver kills someone, we (rightfully) blame the drunk, not the car.
