Dave B. I have had PD for almost 26 years, and started out with the disease and internal tremor on the right side of my body. The only other outwardly visible symptom I had for years was my right arm became very rigid and was always pulled up at a 25 or 30 degree angle to my body. As timed passed, other symptoms made themself known tho were still always internal: breathing problems, trouble swollowing, could'nt turn over in bed, and other aggravating and scary things. Eventually, I decided to look into having a pallidotomy (at that time brain stim sturgery had just started being tested and was not available because the FDA hadn't yet approved for the general PD community) I had the a unilateral pallidotmy (one side only and performed on the left side of my body to alleviate symptoms on the right side of my body.) on Oct. 24, 1994, and 55 minutes after the surgery began, I walked, DANCED out of the operating room. ate a big dinner and was back at work the following day. I haven't had another symptom on the right side since! I do have an occassional external tremor - a "resting tremor" - on th left side now , usually once or twice a day and on some days there are NO tremors at all. There are internal symptoms - especially my whispy voice that no one can hear! <GROAN> and an inalblity to tolerate the triple diget heat we're having daily in hotter-then-hot L.A.area keeps me indoors till early evening almost every day. But I'm still ME... errrr... so far. Hang in there, m'friend... I am among those who have internal tremor. So far, it happens 1 - 3 times a day, usually for a very short duration (a few minutes). Does anyone know if this symptom gets worse over time like many other PD symptoms? Dave Bergford 59/58/55? [log in to unmask]
