Message regarding Michael J. Fox testifying at Stem Cell Hearing
When: Thursday September 14, 2000.
Where: Senate Labor, Health and Education Appropriations Subcommittee
hearing on guidelines for federal funding of research involving stem cells.
What: Michael J. Fox has accepted an invitation to testify before Congress on
the need for federal funding of stem cell research. On behalf of the one
million Americans with Parkinson’s and countless others impacted by
debilitating disease or injury, Michael will address the urgent need for
the improved therapies and cures promised by the utilization of stem
cells.
Congress is currently debating whether, and under what circumstances federal funds should be used to support stem cell research. The Michael J. Fox Foundation urges immediate funding of such research under the guidelines proposed by the Department of Health and Human Services.
What To Do: On Thursday September 14, advocates should call their U.S.
Representative and two Senators and urge them to join Michael J. Fox
and all Americans living with a disease or disability by supporting
federal funding for stem cell research. Every Representative and
Senator’s office can be reached by calling the U.S. Capitol switchboard
at 202-224-3121.
