SCHEDULE FOR TODAY AND NEXT WEEK
as of Friday, September 8, 2000

"The Senate Labor/HHS/Education appropriations subcommittee
Thursday held the sixth in a series of hearings on stem cell
research. By all reports, not much new ground was covered in the
hearing but panel chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) did reiterate his
intention to move his stem-cell bill, S. 2015, to the floor this month.
Specter plans to hold another hearing next Thursday (September
14th). That hearing will be held at 9:30 a.m. (Eastern Time) in
Room 216 of the Hart Senate office building. It is expected, but not
yet confirmed, that witnesses will include Michael J. Fox, Jennifer
Estess, and some other celebrity witnesses.

"Meanwhile, Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY)and Connie Morella (R-
MD) will be cosponsoring a briefing in the House on the stem cell
issue next Wednesday [Sept 13]. The briefing will be held at 3:30
p.m. (Eastern Time) in Room 2222 of the Rayburn House office
building. Presenters will include Lana Skirboll, from the Office of
the Director of the National Institutes of Health."
