I am not Canadian, but my history education tells me that Canada is
now an independent country which is a member of the British
Commonwealth.  Like Australia and other former British colonies.
Canada was, as I recall, a "Dominion" back in the forties when I was in
grade school, with a Governor-General appointed by the British
Monarch; but this changed sometime after that.  The Canadian flag
was also changed at the time from the "red ensign" which had a
British Union Jack in the corner, to the present "Maple Leaf" flag.

Perhaps the Canadians on this List can verify this.
