I can see the fear in your eyes,
and my heart aches for you
Your gentle world has no place,
no frame of reference
for these medical rules,
information and warnings,
You know you need the surgery
and you know in your mind
all will be ok
but the strangeness of this
medical world,
the uncertainty of putting your life
into strangers hands
and fear of the unknown
all combine to make
your fear increase even though
all will be ok
I've been in your shoes,
and can understand your fears
If possible, I would take the surgery for you
gladly accepting all your pain
because even though I know in my mind
all will be ok
my heart is screaming warnings
not to risk this so special person
regardless of how safe the operation is
and regardless of how much I believe that
all will be ok
but I can't show my fear
for fear of increasing yours
so I hide my true feelings
and whisper words of understanding and love
and pray to the only One
who can keep you safe.
And in His hands
all will be ok.

Pain
Four little letters
Screaming so loudly at me
radiating from my face to my ear
down my neck
coiling around my shoulder
like some ugly viper
dripping venom into knees, elbows, ankles and wrists....
I pull your picture out,
and look at the stillness of your eyes
their calm blue soothes and softens
the flames washing over me
Memories of your body warm me,
but memories of your words of love
light up my life and give me so much joy
As I stare at your picture,
and see your features mirrored in your sisters' faces,
the roar of my body quiets to a whisper.
As the hurt retreats, my mind drifts...
