Bob,

If that is a Texas tall tale it is the funniest one that I have ever
heard
outside of Texas itself:) Not that Texas is funny, I do not wish to get
on your bad side aftter the *torment* that you went through yesterday.
I thought the one that I heard when I lived in SC took the cake but your
day was the best I have ever seen. It seems a fisherman out fishing on
Lake Marion in SC always worried about water moccasins and with
justification if anyone knows about them in the south. He was fishing
near
the shore and was watching them swimming around his boat as they are
curious. As he was swatting at one which had circled to the back of his
boat he hadnt noticed that he had drifted under a tree branch. The lake
is
full of trees stumps just as you described and one has to be alert when
on
the water for them. His first awareness of this branch was when a snake
dropped into his boat in front of his feet. He happened to have a pistol
as
so many fishermen carry, and fired mulitple shells at it. Suddenly he
realized
that the bullets had pierced his boat and it was sinking rapidly. He
had two
choices; to go down with his boat and take a chance on the depth or
abandon his * ship * and take his chances with more snakes. Needless to
say, it took him a long time to live down the teasing that he received
from
his buddies who wondered who was the prize him or the boat on the
bottom.? And to think that he didnt even get a bite that day either...:)
