Edith, You wrote: "Glad my cause enabled you to choose your list of possible freedoms......" I'm not sure what your cause was. Until PD struck my family this taxpayor never asked for anything from the government. I rarely if ever felt that I had paid for services not received. The freedom that I enjoy was enough so I paid. As the PD progressed I saw an opportunity for the government to serve me in another way. So I went after that opportunity. It took six years but help is now on the way. The process worked and I am thankful. Based on what I perceive from your comments, we've either got Candide's, "Best of all possible worlds" or we have the makings of anarchy! I have visions of our Founding Fathers turning over in their graves! They were renegades against the king, and almost all of them suffered dearly to establish this government we call our own(in spite of--still the best). Republic? Democracy? The semantics and repercussions of all of this is mind boggling! Can't you hear the FF now as they meet in Independence Hall in the sky trying to make some sense of what we've done to all their efforts! Was not the intent of the three branches of government to be the oversight for one another? And don't you get the idea now that maybe everything is so politically confusing it's getting difficult to tell the branches apart(I know I'm being facetious)? You wrote: "Is there a real value in being too early? I have a great dislike for over legislation." My feeling is that had we been vigilant early, perhaps we could have prevented the cumbersome overage of legislation that now exists. We could have prevented repetitions and overcrowdings and conflicts of interest. In leaving too much to those whom we have elected, we, perhaps have taken the easy path and have allowed our representatives to "pork barrel" their own legislative futures. Very few of our representatives leave office or retire poor men or women! Let's also not forget the contacts they make while in office. One cushy spot frequently leads to another cushier spot-often at our expense(lobbying, corporate representative etc.). What have we got? A long list of representatives who have forgotten how to represent and who seek personal gratification. An electorate the continues to pay for services not rendered and who now, out of disgust, finds another way to be heard, THE INITIATIVE! What did you say about over legislation? Oh, I know, just enough new regs for the poor ones to remain while the good ones are struck down by the courts! We are over legislated, and who's to blame?. We are mired in bureaucracy from the local level to Washington, D.C., and it's not going to get any better or any easier. Gee, if only my voter information booklet would arrive! Glad my cause enabled you to choose your list of possible freedoms. Let's just say they are great for you. You chose them. Others may have lists that are entirely different, possibly just as admirable(or not so admirable). If all the lists are different, and no one wants to cooperate, guess what? Power. Strength. Greed. Oh, well!> We already have an excess of bureaucracy, so forget about lack of government intervention. Then again, if you want that competitive wage, you might not receive it without help from somewhere besides your proof of your efficiency. You may choose your vocation, but you might need an education to reach it and to maintain it. There we go again! And on and on and on....Big Brother is going to be there somewhere. Guess Candide would probably make do. I don't know about the rest of us- unless we're vigilant(glad you agree it may be worth it)! E who walks in the headdress of the sun tongue in cheek Is there a real value in being too early? I have a great >dislike for over legislation. Things would get slowed down >mired in bureaucracy.
